The 24 October inauguration

President Bola Tinubu inaugurated an 81-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna highway on 24 October 2026, according to a State House statement. The ceremony formed part of activities around the governing party's campaign launch in Kaduna.

The presidency identified the commissioned section as Lot 1 of the wider Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano dual carriageway. Voice of Nigeria separately reported the 81-kilometre inauguration and described the route's connection between the Federal Capital Territory and northern commercial centres.

Why the corridor matters

Our assessment is that dependable road links can improve the reliability of deliveries and passenger journeys, with potential benefits for trade and business planning. Those benefits depend on the condition of connecting sections, maintenance, safety and the costs transport operators actually face.

Neither an inauguration nor a stated project objective demonstrates that freight charges or travel times have already fallen. The sources reviewed did not provide comparable before-and-after measurements for this section.

The next test

The verified milestone is the 81-kilometre section, rather than completion of the entire Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano corridor. Subsequent reporting should track the remaining works and actual user experience before treating expected economic benefits as delivered outcomes.
